New forum users without a wiki account:
Anyone who creates an account here at the forums can use the same username & password at the PlentyWiki, no additional registration there is required.

Unfortunately you have to login separately to both the forum and the wiki though, and it depends on your browser how long your "sessions" last (that is: how long you will stay logged in). Still, I hope this makes makes it easier for you to start editing the wiki if you want to.

Existing PlentyWiki users:
Unfortunately at this time there is no way to make this work the other way around (automatically creating forum IDs for existing wikiusers). But please consider registering with the same username at both places so we know who you are!

Known issues
- If you registered your forum account between February 16th and March 9th 2011 your account information wasn't duplicated over to the wiki because account creation was temporarily disabled to stop a flood of spammers. You need to create a wiki account manually.

- If your username contains certain characters like _ or ' it is likely that the duplication process has failed and you need to create your wiki account manually.

If you encounter any problems with this feature, please let me know. And don't hesitate to ask any questions, I'll try to explain how this works. Big Grin

This feature in currently not enabled.
This seemed as good a place as any to ask this question!

Mervi, being a lot less computer literate than most of the world's population, I am totally clueless with the processes involved with contributing to the wiki (and yes, I have even been to the help page etc and copied everything possible that could assist me Blushing!).

I am also usually very pressed for time so when I come on to thePlenty, it is often when I am juggling quite a few other teaching and computer-related tasks (dictating spelling words, creating posters, completing reports, typing up meeting minutes etc). To multi-task and type something straightforward without the need to think too much is quite easy to fit in eg a post on a RotE subject but I don't have the time (or excess brain power!) to sift through and learn complicated procedures right at the moment...easy for the rest of you, so very complicated for me!

Is it possible to do the research and type up the bulk of information for a wiki page on a Word doc, eg Others Island, and then pass it on to someone else who has the technical ability to add it to the wiki/put in headings etc, OR does it all need to be done on the actual wiki page?

Told you I was clueless Wink !
Of course it's okay to submit it in a text file! Smiling

You can
- email it to me (memories at theplenty dot net) and when I find the time, I will add it to the article(s) in question and add the formatting.

- or you can use the "talk" pages of the wiki (that way we know who submitted the information - I don't want to steal the credit for your hard work!)

Here's how the latter would work:
- you go to a page where the information would belong to. There's a search box on the left sidebar, write your article's subject (e.g. "Chalced") in it, click "go" and you should see the page. Or you can navigate to it using the links etc.
- Click on the red "discussion" button at the top of the page (between "page" and "edit"). (It might actually be blue if someone else has already used it.)
- Simply paste the text you had written on the big box that is on that page
- Click "save page"
That should be it. Smiling Someone will add it later to the actual article and format it.

If the page doesn't exist yet (for example if you search for "Thymara" you will see the warning "There is no page titled "Thymara". You can create this page."). You can click on that "create this page". You can simply dump the text there, no need to create a talk page. Someone will simply just edit it later. Smiling
That's fantastic news (and sounds simple enough with all of your instructions!), so thanks for all of your help, Mervi Thankful !

But what about old forum users? I don't seem to be able log in to the Wiki with my forum username. (So I used my old, differently names wiki account to upload those new Dutch covers.)
Well, it's supposed to work for old forum users, but it's been a couple of years now and both scripts (mediawiki and myBB) have been updated several times so it's possible something might have been broken. Thanks for letting me know Rex, and I'll try to look into this when I can.
Seems not to work...

Code:
Login error
There is no user by the name "'thul". Check your spelling.

It might be related to the ' in these beings' user name, but not sure.
Erk...a wiki problem? I was hoping that wouldn't happen on my watch! P

I've just been able to log in on my first attempt, with no dramas, so all seems to be working fine for me. 'thul, I am assuming you tried without the ' ?

I will have a better look (can't see anything relevant to the problem on the wiki help page or thereabouts at present) but, sorry, I don't think my 'powers' Magic extend beyond the forum.

If nobody else (eg someone more computer-savvy than I!) has a suggestion for a solution (?), I can alert Mervi via email if you continue to have a problem. She may realise Lightbulb something immediately though it may be a while until she sees the email or is able to act on it.
its probably something well beyond the powers moderator status, yes...

Another wiki thingy 'thul checked, said this on user names...

Quote:Usernames can only contain letters (capital or lowercase), numbers, underscores (_), hyphens (-), and periods (.).

so that may be valid here too...

' is sometimes used as part of some code, so it may not be easy to fix... Javascript at least uses such as part of the code.
'thul will attempt using a different character there... or would have, had that been activated...

anyways, noticed this just now:
theplentynet: Account creation for our wiki has been disabled for the time being. Apologies for the inconvenience.

could you ask mervi if she could try to fix it?

If necessary, just set up a wiki account with ยด or ` instead of ' in the name... or something like that...

(these beings did not know till you wrote the above that mervi was (and still is) female.)
