I'll add the cupboard from 'Indian in the Cupboard' to my list... Big Grin

I suppose if fantasy could be true I'd wish for evil to be vanquished....

Evil is a matter of degree... in a world without any crimes of the level of murder, minor theft is a great evil. in a world where murders happen regularly, it is no longer as evil...

Such profound words 'thul beings and, as is the norm on this site, you have got my thoughts flitting off onto all sorts of pathways...as have you, danieladamsmith!

What is evil? Even if one is an atheist or non-Christian, should we think on things such as the Ten Commandments and contemplate how far we have come since their introduction as law? What is law? Are there degrees of evil or degrees of a crime or is it all just 'evil' and 'crime' and deserving of like punishment? Is all crime evil? Or should the story behind the crime be taken into account? Does it matter? What responsibility should the government, ruling party or members of a society take to minimise the need for 'desperate crime', such as providing food and shelter for the impoverished before they succumb to the need to steal for it? Am I evil? Do the mistakes I have made allow me to wear such a label? Just because society says it is evil, does it make it evil? Just because society says it is not evil, does that make it not evil? What is good? Are evils balanced or deleted by goods, or vice-versa? Do we need evil to know what is good? .........

these beings like one view they have seen of good and evil...

too much evil = combustion
too much good = stagnation

Maybe I should retool my answer..replace EVIL with CRUELTY...
I'd like Cruelty to be vanquished...

Evil is a loaded word I know. And in my own hamfisted way I fell prey to that...Cruelty is truly mankind's worst quality.

I think I have to acknowledge to all I am an Atheist and because of that I don't think there is any real justice in the world based on destiny or what is right...occasionally good things happen and good people come into good things...(the friend that releases a record that does really well, the teacher that gains recognition, the killer that is caught)

Although I certainly wouldn't mind if Dragons still existed in a real Naomi Novik kind of way...

Cruelty is just as scalable.

What is cruel? Euthanasia or letting someone live on tubes? Abortion or giving birth to a child when you don't want it?

Cruel is taking pleasure from another's pain and suffering. Cruel is locking a child in a closet for 8, 10, 20 hours a day. Cruel is molesting, raping, beating or murdering a child. Cruel is torturing an animal for pleasure..Cruel is picking on someone that cannot defend themself. I know we live in a world of relatavism and subjectivism..I have a pretty good idea of what cruelty is...I didn't realize cruelty was up for discussion but since Joost brought it up....Is Euthanasia in the discussion? I'd say if someone, preferably the person that is ill, decides they would prefer to die I'd say that wasn't cruelty..Having a child when you don't want it?. Politically I am pro-choice because I don't want to live in a world where women have to hide in a back alley to get an abortion for a mistake they made. Though many abortions are needless. Personally I am pro-life because I have a child and when you see what that little thing becomes it's hard to feel any other way... One can always have the child and put it up for adoption. One can also try using birth control. I've heard that usually works. And if it didn't there are morning after pills.
Is Cruelty definable or scalable? I don't know. Maybe it's like that judge..."I know pornography when I see it." I know cruelty when I see or hear of it...What do you think cruelty is?
