RE: "First, let me introduce you to yourself" - Brashen - Feb-13-2012 Ah, just found it. So my name is Phil and I came here through Farseer (Net at the Newsgroup) because I shared my map over there and he was enthusiastic about it. I am German. I first got to Robin Hobb years ago while going through our little citys library looking for a new fantasy book. Suddenly I stopped and read (I got it wrong): Robin Hood: The Golden Fool (Der Goldene Narr in German). I thought: Oh funny, there are kind of "joking" books (like some movies do jokes about other movies) in the fantasy genre. But than I noticed it was not Hood but Hobb. Nevertheless I was interested and took the book. Than I noticed that it's not the first, but found AA and read it and the whole rest very very fast Those are the best fantasy books I ever read! Definitely! RE: "First, let me introduce you to yourself" - Valarya - Feb-13-2012 (Feb-13-2012, 10:52 PM (UTC))Brashen Wrote: Ah, just found it. Welcome, welcome to thePlenty Phil!!!! Definitely! Hahah! That's funny. When I first started reading the books my husband (now-ex) used to always call them "those Robin Hood books." I actually found them through George R. R. Martin. I'm a huge fan of his Song of Ice and Fire series and follow his livejournal and blog. He has a page on his site for book recommendations and he couldn't recommend Robin Hobb enough. So glad when people find their way to this series!!!! RE: "First, let me introduce you to yourself" - Brashen - Feb-13-2012 Robin Hood () is just the best RE: "First, let me introduce you to yourself" - 'thul - Feb-14-2012 These beings recommended the entire RotE to someone in one of their classes today. Brashen, you may find that 'he' is more of a 'she' than you first thought. (Feb-13-2012, 04:02 PM (UTC))Gielske Wrote: I'm Gielske Well met and welcome, Gielske! It's terrific to have you here within thePlenty with us, and wonderful to see that you've made yourself at home already! Yes, the Dutch sub-forum is only teensy at the moment but hopefully it will grow as time goes by. Early days yet. Oh I'm sorry. So I'm glad that she brought me here RE: "First, let me introduce you to yourself" - Narya - Feb-18-2012 Hi, my name is Laurie, and my screen name is Narya. I stumbled upon this forum through the wiki. I've been on other forums for about 17 years now, mostly Lord of the Rings forums (hence the obsure LOTR screen name) and love to talk passionately about Life, the Universe and Everything in a framework of a well thought out fictional world (which is probably why I am NOT on a Douglas Adams forum). Unfortunately, there are not enough Hobbs fans in my current home forum, or among my family and friends in "real" life, carry on a discussion. So I'm glad to have found you. I was first introduced to the Live Ship trilogy, from my local library. Soon after I read it, I got to see RH at WorldCon and gushed and squeed shamelessly for a woman of my age. Coming from a nautical family, I was delighted with the authenticity and detail of the series. Then I read the Farseer and Tawny Man series in rather quick succession ... Several times. It felt like a Skill command - I just had to keep reading them. I just finished Fool's Fate again. I also read the Soldier Son trilogy but did not feel the same deep connection. I started the latest RotE book, but put it down - I just couldn't get into it. But I think I'll try again, as several of you have said it was good, after a slow start. But enough about me! RE: "First, let me introduce you to yourself" - 'thul - Feb-18-2012 These beings welcome thee, Narya. The slow start in the rain wild chronicles is much because the first two books are actually a story meant to happen in one book. All the truly great events that typically come a bit after halfway through a book come in the second book here. Not that the first book does not have is special moments, they are just a bit rarer there... The third book is even better... |
