Yes, but not for me RE: 100 questions - Narya - Feb-26-2012 Joost, I'm not ignoring you. At the risk of looking like I'm stealing people from this forum, I'd like to recommend my other two homes. The first is The Hall of Fire, thehalloffire.net, a small Lord of the Rings forum, where we talk about Tolkien-related books and movies, and anything else under the sun. The other is Red Hot Pawn, redhotpawn.com, a chess site. RHP has blitz (fast) and correspondence (slow) chess. It also has a forum, but unless you like arguing with 14 year old nerdy boys, who are just bored and waiting for their opponent to move, I don't recommend it. I know what you mean about those crisp days of Autumn, in California. I don't mind those at all. But the crisp days of Autumn in Alaska, which occur during the one week in September, are a harbinger of a slow slide into 6 months of dark, bleak, cold, Winter. I had Seasonal Affective Disorder when I lived in Alaska, and would watch myself descend into depression, inexoribly, at the end of each Summer. I hated it, and I couldn't stop it. So I moved back to California. And I don't think JS Bach would be boring. He had 20 kids, challenging work, and a fabulous muse. I'm afraid he'd find me to be the boring one. I saw a documentary once about how Alaska has the highest rate of suicides in the US.. including more than NYC, or something like that (it was a long time ago, would need to look up more recent statistics to be sure. I hate spreading misinformation, haha). But it was mainly due to being plunged in to darkness for so long out of the year. I have a friend who lived in Fairbanks for 6 years and he was miserable. He ended up moving to Jeju Island South Korea and has never looked back. I don't blame you for getting out of there, even if it IS beautiful country. |
