RE: Best movie you've ever seen. - Nuytsia - Jul-25-2010

I've heard great things about it, but when I saw a review I just kept thinking UGH Leonardo DiCaprio always seems to play the same sort of character, why couldn't they have got someone else. (see plot summary from imdb below)
In general it seems the type of movie I'd love, except for the main plot description!
If you look at the imdb plot summary and remove the references to dreams and substitute something like 'bank heists' or whatever then it becomes some crappy movie like I dunno Oceans 11 or something. By crappy I just mean 'not to my taste cos I find it boring'.

hmm movie plot summary possible spoiler but not really

I just love how spambots can contradict themselves without even noticing it.

The plot description doesn't really give it much credit. The reason its so popular is because it's deeper then some heist movie. Alot of emotional and sorta trippy things going on. I wouldn't even really think of it as a "heist" movie. It's what they do (prior the actual events in the move) but not really what the actual movie is about. In fact the movies more about putting in rather then taking out.

But yea it wouldn't be for everyone but I'd least give it a chance when it hits vid stores.

I've heard a lot of people liked Inception but I still don't know much about it.

The film Paprika also revolves around the study of dreams. It's also a bit cryptic but it's quite interesting nonetheless and downright gorgeous visually.

Anybody watch old films? Pre-codes?

If you like Paprika, you should watch Serial experiments: Lain. It's about virtual reality and whether people can live without a body.

Other anime recommendations:
- The girl who leapt through time
- Everything by Studio Ghibli, but I especially like Only yesterday, Ponyo and Grave of the fireflies
- Steamboy
- Haibane renmei

Highly recommend Ponyo, great flick!
Always wanted to see "The girl who leapt through time" but always miss my chance when ever one arises.

I like several Silent-era German movies (Metropolis, Der Golem, M: Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder, Nosferatu). Apart from those, I've watched very little pre-WWII movies. I still need to watch the B&W version of The 10 commandments, which has been lying on my shelf for several years now.

Okay, I'm finally willing to bite...while Viggo had me in a dither during his LOTR and Hidalgo performances, for which attractive specimen would I specifically pay a cinema entrance fee/video rental to see? *drum roll*

I can only come up with one...Gerard Butler *awaits critical, lively comebacks P *
