I would definately agree that Wintrow used the Skill to create the stained glass. I hadn't noticed that reference to black substance/stone in the area. VERY interesting!! I found it intriguing that the priests apparently used the Skill in ways not known in the 6D - but for some reason I hadn't really related the making of the stained glass specifically to the Elderlings making things using the Skill !! Of course!
I like your idea that the use of Skill/Wit seems to be becoming more prevalent. That does make sense to me. It did seem to be that in the early parts of the RoTE books Skilled people were virtually non-existent and the powers were very limited. (although obviously in the PAST this was not so). I sort of found it didn't make sense that in later parts more people seemed to have Skill and Skill seemed to be 'easier' to use for Fitz. I didn't consider that things were actually changing!! (due to dragons?)

(despite also being angry with him years earlier when he did discuss the Buckkeep caretaker role with Duke Brawndy!). From memory, Chade said something like, “Shrewd was never worried about you like he was with me because you never had any ambitions for the throne”...which kind of leads us to the fact that Chade DID have ambitions for the thrown and thought less of Fitz for not ever having had them! Fitz, in return, was very hurt by this remark of Chade’s and this tells us that he truly had never held any loftier goals than those we learned through his own commentary. Being Son-Of-Chivalry was enough, though he would have preferred his father to be a part of the scenario...!

A quick list of other parallels... both were firstborns; both were ‘watched over’ in their youth, to a certain extent, by Chade; both had their Skill training hindered in some form by Galen’s interference; both loved Verity and Verity himself often confused Fitz with Chivalry during Skill-contact (as did Shrew); Fitz even acknowledged to Nettle that his lack of a relationship with her (and Dutiful, though she is clueless about that!) had mirrored his own father’s absence, as did the practice of looking in on her/them via the Skill; Chivalry’s sword was a perfect fit to Fitz’s height and hand-size; neither ever wore the crown of king; both wore Burrich’s grandmother’s freedom earring; both had a bastard child who was raised by Burrich and both ended up doing a stint at Withywoods (even slept in the same bed, as Fitz noted at the end of FF!). It could also be said that Fitz was rather diplomatic (at least a lot more than Verity!), as was Chivalry, and this could be highlighted from his first visit to Bearns.

The Chivalry-then-Fitz cycle may have continued with Dutiful eg Skilled; bastard child without the accepted fathering of Verity; absent father; same Skilling habit as Chivalry (like a bull); never would have properly worn the crown (as himself at least) if he had gone off with the Piebalds; would not have had the girl he loved in Elliana etc, IF Changer hadn’t intervened and saved him from a similar fate...in this, Changer DID make a difference and prevented these further parallels taking place within another generation? Simple changes from a personal, Farseer perspective, but also huge on a world-wide scale?

the bit in Solider Son where Nevarre's father makes a similar comment about him having no ambition (or independent will or something very similar) and Nevarre is totally surprised! He never realised his father thought that about him and certainly hadn't seen himself that way.
