RE: What are you listening? - Farseer - Mar-18-2011 Coupled with the thought of a man walking down a hallway towards me, carrying a (bloodied?) axe? To borrow a quote from our dear Fitz, "I very nearly wet myself"! It was chilling, to say the least! Aside from the fear factor, I could appreciate the whistling ability as I tend to whistle A LOT when I listen to music...in fact, the very first thing my now husband said to me when we first met down at our shearing shed was, "Can you sing?". When I asked him why that was, he said, "Because you can't whistle." Loved the brawny guard! RE: What are you listening? - 'thul - Mar-18-2011 These beings took that guard from a semi-animated movie... Who framed roger rabbit? If you ever doubted it, no, that bouncer is not human. But it is very much "brawny" Apparently the song appeared in an semi-ancient horror movie... "Twisted Nerve" IMDB dates the movie as released in 1968. These beings, being fairly poor at whistling, can almost manage a primitive form of that song, but they cannot get the right frequency and volume. RE: What are you listening? - Oblivia - Mar-18-2011 I've got Forgive Me Father by Cradle of Filth stuck in my head at the moment. Just saw the video recently and it's totally stuck in my brain. RE: What are you listening? - joost - Mar-21-2011 Ordo Rosarius equilibrio and In slaughter natives were really good on friday, the other bands were OK but not spectacular. But it was nothing compared to Kim Wilde today. That was totally AWESOME! Almost 2 hours, all my favourite tracks, and some really nice surprises (Jessica with just Kim on piano, an acoustic version of Love blonde, and covers of Forever young (Alphaville) and Sleeping satellite (Tasmin Archer)). Yep, definitely the best concert of this year so far. Some videos of friday: ORE - Hell is where the heart is (live Rotterdam) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ikr1W9sB7A ORE - Three is an orgy, four is forever (live Rotterdam) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0XOCDEJITs ORE - In high heels through nights of broken glass (live Rotterdam) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rfj70LBJgrc Spiritual front - Song for the old man (live Rotterdam) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvI992AVD6U Spiritual front - Jesus died in Las Vegas (Jesus died in Rotterdam) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJCRrhaermI RE: What are you listening? - FoolishGirl - Mar-25-2011 I don't know if this video has been shared around here (quick search came up with nil), but here's what I listen to/watch when I'm longing for the RotE: Note: requires Flash so doesn't play on iPad/Phone. Spoiler alert: DO NOT watch if you've not read Farseer and Tawny Man sextet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHQEfmG-_dg Ah! 1:55 and 5:00 get me every time! RE: What are you listening? - redchild - Mar-26-2011 I don't care if it isn't Christmas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ei-kSneL6g&playnext=1&list=PL95CFFC9A31731C50 The minigame accompanying this track gave me plenty of frustration But I beat it so- HAH!! RE: What are you listening? - Mervi - Mar-27-2011 Orla Fallon's new CD "My Land" was released this month and it's been almost the only thing I've listened these past few weeks. RE: What are you listening? - 'thul - Mar-28-2011 These beings found that song intriguing, but they could not understand the text. RE: What are you listening? - Mervi - Mar-28-2011 It's a traditional Gaelic song. I had to do a bit of googling since there's lots of variations and this one has bits and pieces of it, but I think I've got it together. Mo Ghile Mear - My Gallant Darling Chorus: 'Sé mo laoch, mo Ghile Mear, 'Sé mo Chaesar, Ghile Mear, Suan ná séan ní bhfuaireas féin Ó chuaigh i gcéin mo Ghile Mear. (repeat) Bímse buan ar buaidhirt gach ló, Ag caoi go cruaidh 's ag tuar na ndeór Mar scaoileadh uaim an buachaill beó 'S ná ríomhtar tuairisc uaidh, mo bhrón. (chorus) Seinntear stair ar chlairsigh cheoil 's líontair táinte cárt ar bord Le hinntinn ard gan chaim, gan cheó Chun saoghal is sláinte d' fhagháil dom leómhan. (chorus) The song then morphs into the melody of another traditional Irish song, "Haste to the Wedding", and then the chorus is repeated twice more. The chorus translates as He is my hero, my dashing darling He is my Caesar, dashing darling. I've had no rest from forebodings Since he went far away my darling. And the two verses that are included in this version are Every day I am constantly enduring grief, Weeping nitterly and shedding tears, Because my lively lad has left me And no news is told of him- - - alas! Let a strain be played on musical harps And let many quarts be filled With high spirit without fault or mist For life and health to toast my lion. RE: What are you listening? - 'thul - Mar-28-2011 Ahh... As 'thul suspected, it was Gaelic...The style fit with that region of the world and it did not match other languages that used similar styles... |
