Started again in Legends II. 'Beyond between' because I have read a lot of Pern books lately (including Moreta), Homecoming (of course), and now The sworn sword. The other stories in the book (including the Neil Gaiman one, which surprised me, because I usually love everything he writes) aren't very interesting to me though, although 'The messenger' is OK.

joost, I only read 'Homecoming' as that's why I bought it. I did consider having a look at 'Beyond Between' but, as I haven't got to reading any of our Pern books yet, I thought I'd best wait a while. Is that what I should do, or could I start with a look at 'Beyond Between'?

It's a story you can enjoy without having read the Pern books, but it is better if you first read Moreta and First fall, because then you'll be familiar with some of the things referenced.

From the other stories I'd definitely suggest reading the sworn sword (and if you have Legends I, its predecessor The hedge knight, since TSS is a continuation of THK). It's set about 80 or 90 years before the events in SOIAF. Maester Aemon (the old man at the Wall) is the brother of Egg (Aegon), one of the main characters in these two books.

Which reminds me that I really should get Warriors, since it has, besides 'The triumph', part three of the Dunk & Egg saga.

Thanks, will do!

There's a hardback available from the Book Depository (link on the main forum page...I think Mervi called it the index page)...if you were interested?

I read 'The Hedge Knight' and quite enjoyed it. It was fun seeing the link to Maester Aemon.

The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult, inter-laced with a re-read of Dragon Haven now that I have my book back!

Interestingly, this is just a part of the passage ("Magic Words," translated from the Inuit by Edward Field) in TTC prior to the prologue:

In the very earliest time,
when both people and animals lived on earth,
a person could become an animal if he wanted to and an animal could become a human being.
Sometimes they were people
and sometimes animals
and there was no difference.
All spoke the same language....

Now, what does THAT sound like?!

Definitely read Moreta before Beyond Between, or else it'll all but spoil the book for you. Coincidentally, I'm re-reading Moreta now. Smiling

Been readin' stuff about the question of God's existence for a paper - not that the subject isn't iteresting in itself, of course.

Richard Dawkins - The God Delusion
J. L. Mackie - The Miracle of Theism
Herman Philipse - Atheïstisch manifest (Atheist Manifesto)
Richard Swinburne - The Existence of God

Etc...
