I have finished The Last Stormlord, Lormlord's Rising and am now mid-way through Stormlord's Exile. As has been the case for ALL fantasy books that I've read post-RotE, I have drawn comparisons and cringed Ouch and groaned at each and any mention of something RotE-ish but, in spite of myself, I am thoroughly enjoying the read. I know this because it is causing huge interruptions to my life and I am tired....SO tired! Book P

After I'm done, I might join you with A Game of Thrones, fool-ish. I started it once before but maybe it's time I gave it another go...even if I have to regulate myself with just a chapter a day or something! Smiling

Smiling We can compare notes or perhaps more to the point, I can complain about any confusion I may be experiencing! P

Yes, and we can consult the experts by joining this discussion also. Smiling

EDIT: Yikes! Including the link helps.

Anne McCaffrey's 'The ship who sang'. I've read it about 20 years ago (borrowed from the library) and loved it, and I finally bought it a few weeks ago. Read the first story in the train this morning, and I loved it again.

For those who don't know the book: Helva is a disfigured baby whose brain is used to command a ship. During her training she learned to sing, which is an anomaly for a brainship, and after her first trip she's known as 'the ship who sings'. The book is a fixup of 6 short stories of her adventures (5 previously published, one written for the bundle).

Just finished Final Blackout earlier this morning, less than a hundred pages to go in Tussen God en de zee. Not sure what my next books will be; books clamoring for attention right now are The Illustrated Man, The Steel Remains and The First Book of Lankhmar...

RE: What are you reading right now? - fool-ish - Sep-15-2011

I'm still rather hopeful that I won't be puzzling over the book, but it's always good to know there's a discussion somewhere to help with the puzzly bits. Puzzly? that's not even a word but I like it P

I've read some blurb on the Stormlord series, sounds pretty good, so yet another added to the enormous wish list. Smiling

RE: What are you reading right now? - 'thul - Sep-16-2011

when the needed word is non-existent, make one up. Puzzly is a good one.

RE: What are you reading right now? - fool-ish - Sep-16-2011

Well, I've started it and despite my worries about puzzly stuff, I've got the gist of who everyone is..mostly! Once or twice I've come unstuck with brothers and nephews, but other than that, it's all good. I'm liking it! Smiling Oh and I've only referred to the maps once to find the 'wall.' Never did find it.

RE: What are you reading right now? - joost - Sep-17-2011

The wall is at the top of the map, in the complete north.

RE: What are you reading right now? - Nuytsia - Sep-17-2011

Four maps! Ooooh no fair, my edition has only got 2 maps (the north and the south! pretty self explanatory...)

Don't worry the geography isn't complicated, at least for Westeros. It's just basically a big rectangle when you simplify it.

I also have 'A Game Of Thrones' waiting to be read. I do hope I enjoy it. No less than four maps has me a little concerned that I may be confuzzled with who, what, where! I struggle with just one map! Time will tell.
