joost, I am assuming you put the Night on earth: Helsinki links to show what the environment is like there, or was it just for the story content Big Grin? Either way, I still cried!

As for SAD, I could fully understand that happening and would no doubt fall victim to it myself if I lived somewhere like Finland, Mervi! Even eleven hours of sunlight in the winter makes me feel like I have cabin fever, and I never truly feel myself until the spring arrives!!!

Still waiting for my pile of my books to arrive (including SoLaD). They are no doubt at Heathrow Airport along with all of the people stranded there due to the bad weather...if only they knew, they'd at least have something to read to fill their sudden and involuntary free time Book !

RE: What's happening in your world? - Mervi - Dec-21-2010

I kind of feel I'm totally hijacking this thread with all the Finland related stuff (you will see the irony in that sentence later I hope).... but speaking of the bad weather/flight delays.
The funny thing for me is that this article was of course reported in the Finnish press (every time we make headlines ~in the big world~ it's news here Big Grin) and in the usual way even when we're clearly doing SOMETHING right, we have to be soooo modest about it, so the article pointed out several more recent (but still really minor!) problems there have been. Like, Heathrow, you really shouldn't feel bad about it, we can't handle this stuff as well as they claimed!! Really, it was probably just good luck anyway. Has nothing to do with, like, skills or experience. You can forget about us now, please thnx.

In other news, I installed the "Smurfs' Village" game to my iPhone and that was a really, really bad idea.

These beings could not help but laugh like the typical evil overlord at the article you linked, mervi. It is funny how all those European airports can seem to handle even a little snow, good Scandinavian airports have no trouble handling it...

RE: What's happening in your world? - Mervi - Dec-21-2010

Yeah and it always baffles me to hear many American kids get free days off school if there's snow! I mean what, I would have missed YEARS of education if those were the rules here. Big Grin (But yes, I understand it's better to stay at home than to drive if the streets aren't maintained and your car is not properly equipped.)

RE: What's happening in your world? - Nuytsia - Dec-24-2010

Hi all!
Who's this Nuytsia, you say?
Just thought I'd better say Merry Christmas to all here!
I seem to have been really busy (for me) lately and never seem to get more than 10 minutes on the computer. That's not enough time to devote to thePlenty!!!! So I keep putting off coming here until I have more time to read everything I've missed..... but there never seems to be a good time to sit down and do it!
That doesn't mean I'm not thinking of you guys - I often find myself having random thoughts about Hobb books and thinking 'oooh I must post that on the forum!'
So have a great Christmas, and I hope to get back to posting more soon!!

RE: What's happening in your world? - Farseer - Dec-25-2010

Yes, here's wishing you all a fantastic Christmas (for those of you who observe it P !).

Hey Nuytsia Wink ... enjoy that hot lunch! Our roast chicken, turkey and pork on the spit are all on and progressing well Proud .

Tomorrow will be spent making homemade pasta (with my new pasta maker), while watching the Boxing Day Test of course!!
