A song of Ice and fire discussion (spoilers incl A Dance with Dragons) - Changer - May-07-2009

For all of you who read this serie, I'm quite curious what you think of it, and even better, if you have any theories concerning the characters.

for myself, I really like A Song of Ice and Fire, though I only grasped all the underlying plots after a second read of all four books. By doing so I've ran into one very strange subject, the parentage of my favourite ASoIaF character, Jon Snow. Now we all know that he's suposed to be Eddard Starks bastard son. If you pay attention to the details though, you'll see that there's more evidence saying he's not than that he is. My own feeling says his parents were Rhaegar Targaryan and Lyanna Stark. What's your thought on this matter?

First of all, if anyone reading this thread has not read A Song of Ice and Fire, stop reading NOW! Go read the Song of Ice and Fire series. It is second only to the Farseer trilogy.

With that said, I loved the series and I'm amazed that you read it twice. I read it once and I've been considering reading it again before the HBO series comes out, but they are so gosh darn long.

I agree with your theory about Jon Snow. I'm sure he is more than what he seems, however everyone in the series seems to become so much more than what they seem. I love how each character has some kind of hidden strength that grows with each novel.

Can't wait for the next installment.

Aye, Reckon the Dance will be even better then a Storm of Swords, which in my opinion was the best of the current volumes.

I'm really keen on knowing what's going to happen with the entire Other's invasion. I really wished Martin had given some more details about the battle on the Fist of first men. But then I'm a Night's watch/Stark(or Snow as we know it from the booksP) freak so I'm eager to all the little details about the North/The wall hehe

I'm intrigued! There are only 3 books right now? I've added them to my list Smiling

There are actually 4. A Game of Thrones, A Storm of Swords, A Clash of Kings, A Feast for Crows, and the upcoming (this year I think) A Dance with Dragons.

Okay thanks! I've found the first three at our local bookstore online. I'll have to swing by and pick them up. Wonder where that fourth one is.. hmmm
Oooh.. found the fourth one. It wasn't listed as Song of Fire and Ice so didn't pop up when I did the original search.

I wouldn't be so sure that Dance is out this year... He's still writing it and then will be the editing process and everything. *sigh* Can't wait - but hey, I'll be meeting him in July *does a happy dance* He is the Guest of Honour in Finncon! And I'm planning the program for the event...

RE: A song of Ice and fire discussion - chriSchaeffer - May-14-2009

Planning the program?! Nice! Am I chatting with famous people and I didn't even know it?!

RE: A song of Ice and fire discussion - Changer - May-15-2009

Aye Sini guess you're right, and don't forget the fact that he will be going to Ireland to see a part of the shooting of Thrones there, so my guess is april next year *very deep sigh*
@Chiquita, I had quite a search for A feast for Crows myself, might be worth checking amazon for it though, they had it if I remember correctly

I found all four books at my local mall. I bought the first two but I'm sure I'll go and get the next two fairly quickly Smiling
