I can see where you are coming from, Valarya. And I agree there could be a future farewell!
I didn't expect or want F & F to end up together romantically or sexually. I felt like it was a White Prophet/Catalyst thing, outside of and beyond ordinary human existence, and not really comparable to romantic love. Fitz chose romantic love and companionship. And my heart broke for the Fool.
That is why I love these books. No "happy ending" even when the good guy gets the girl.
