I saw a documentary once about how Alaska has the highest rate of suicides in the US.. including more than NYC, or something like that (it was a long time ago, would need to look up more recent statistics to be sure. I hate spreading misinformation, haha). But it was mainly due to being plunged in to darkness for so long out of the year.
I have a friend who lived in Fairbanks for 6 years and he was miserable. He ended up moving to Jeju Island South Korea and has never looked back. I don't blame you for getting out of there, even if it IS beautiful country.
