The hull of the boat that followed Tarman was black so that certainly fits with the colouring of memory sand or stone...
Not sure if I have said it before or not
but maybe those priests of Sa have a role in all of this 'impervious hull' business as well, seeing as I believe that they, too, have sourced memory stone previously.
