I think that may be the impression we get because we are viewing the story through Fitz's rather edited commentary (not his stream of consciousness).
One incident that springs to mind is in one of the Tawny Man books and some woman is trying to flirt with Lord Golden and apparently keeps putting her hand on his arm and Fitz (Tom Badgerlock) is describing to the reader how LG keeps removing her hand 'as if it were a piece of lint' on his sleeve. I just thought (a) who would even notice that, and (b) Rrrrreowr jealous much Fitz???
