She certainly wasn't seen as old enough to be courting by Bingtown society, but I guess you may say Bingtown is not the Rain Wilds.
She was 12 at the start of the books and it is not clearly stated what age she is when she meets Reyn but I hope it's at least 13 ......
I still find the age DIFFERENCE creepy!
There may have been times in our history when 13 was seen as adult, and this may well be the case in the Rain Wilds. However I think it's clear from Malta's behaviour in the first 2 books of LST that she is not an adult.
I'm not saying there's no chance Reyn is unaware of this at first, but the situation feels yuk.
