I should think the name Tintagel stems from Cornwall's history as a tin-mining county. Though the Arthurian aspect of it is much more interesting! Dozmary Pool, supposedly the final resting place of Excalibur and home to the 'Lady of the Lake' is also in Cornwall, up on Bodmin Moor. And, warming to my subject now, some of Daphne Du Maurier's books are set there; Jamaica Inn (there is a pub on Bodmin moor of the same name) and Frenchman's Creek to name a but a couple (I'm sure there are more too) In fact I think Ms. Du Maurier lived in Cornwall, in a lovely little place called Fowey, pronounced Foy. Lucky lady! It is an inspiring county, particularly for creative types; writers, artists and the like and a wonderful place to spend a week or two for those like me who aren't remotely creative! Just thought I'd share this little bit of useless info.
