I know what you mean Nuytsia! Living on an Island (even a fairly large one like Great Britain), I take the sea for granted. Then some friends visited us from Siberia a few years back. They had never seen the sea before and were completely blown away by it! It must be very strange, living in the middle of a continent. All that dryness and the extremes of heat and cold. When I come back from visiting places like that, I always appreciate the cool sea breezes, the mist and the general greenness. The ocean can be fierce but it creates a gentle climate.
