Both, but I have never been able to play online - supposedly my cd key is incorrect (But it did let me install the game - go figure). And by now the game is so old that I don't think anyone is still playing. A real shame, that.
However, one can have a lot of singleplayer fun with the quest mode and arcade battles. It's a very quick, fast-paced and hectic game (real-time as opposed to turnbased), but the beauty of it is that is strategic - it's not just button mashing. You have to make the right decisions lightning-quick, otherwise you're dead.
