I just finished Farseer series and was looking on comments about Soldier Son or Liveship Tawney Man as which to read next

Hi there oldredr!

You can read Soldier Son trilogy at any time, as it doesn't relate to any of the other books.
I guess it depends how eager you are to read more about the world of Farseer trilogy. If you are then I'd read Liveships next (although the characters are different it's the same world and there is some crossover).
I'd definitely read Liveships before Tawny Man trilogy if I were you.

I agree with Nuytsia, oldredr.

I know many people believe that the order doesn't matter, but there are LOTS of subtle, little intimations etc (not to mention suspense!), that you would miss by not going in this order: Farseer, Live Ship Traders, Tawny Man and then Rain Wild Chronicles. Anyone who didn't get to read them in this order, for whatever reason, I'd suggest going back for a re-read...and I'm sure you'll be surprised!

Also see if you can get your hands on copies of Robin's other Realm of the Elderlings-related short stories, 'Homecoming' (in the 'Legends II' anthology) and also 'Words Like Coins' (in 'A Fantasy Medley', the anthology by Subterranean Press). Even if you are not normally a fan of short stories, these offer some further insight into the other books - I think they are must!

As Nuytsia said, Soldier Son books can be read anytime as they are unrelated.

Please come back and tell us how you go!

ps Forgot to mention Robin's other Realm of the Elderling short story, 'The Inheritance', which is only available to American readers from the Amazon site (this being so, I have only read the reviews!).

It will hopefully appear in book form in her upcoming, 2010 short story collection also called 'The Inheritance'....I can't wait!!!

Praise Mervi for keeping our tangle informed of such good news!
