These beings would guess those two would be Althea Vestrit and Brashen Trell. What 'thul wonder about is what the in the name of helheim those golden dragon lantern holders are. And why the figurehead of Vivicia is so tiny. Liveship figureheads are many times the size of humans, and that one is human-sized.

Note:
when 'thul write in all italics, it is the lord of the three realms within 'thul speaking. A fairly egoistical, but also somewhat simple-minded dragon. Do not take such posts at face value.

Thanks, I can't wait to start reading them! But I may have to wait til the summer, I'm bombarded atm with uni work P But I may well start my own predictions thread when I do read them, maybe you can all laugh at my predictions XD I was reading predictions for DH on some thread (I think it was another forum) and a lot of people had some really good guesses!

I've noticed in fantasy books, the covers don't always match up with the actual story. It's so annoying! It feels like they just slap a cover on the book, that is vaguely in theme with the story, but not completely. Obviously this isn't the case for all books though... I've seen new versions of Hobb's books, where the cover is just a browny background, with a picture of an animal on the cover (eg, a serpant, dragon, wolf, etc.. depending on which book it is). It's a good idea to bring out all her books in a similar style! Although those covers arn't as exciting as some other versions of her books, at least they relate to the actual book, and are kept quite simple.

Oh and thank you very much for the pdf!!! I'm so tempted to start reading now Big Grin

That would be my best guess too ... but I really wasn't sure!
It's soooo romance novel-esque!
In no way did I picture those two characters like that!!! For starters Althea is meant to be about 18? The woman on the cover looks more like 28..... also I doubt Althea wears all those little gold chains and jewellery and wears make-up!
Brashen looks like a total geek!

The golden dragons freaked me out too!
And the figurehead! I know!
They are supposed to much bigger and more stylized than that one surely!
That looks like an a real naked woman on the front of the ship...!

When unquickened, they are very stylized, but after the quickening, they are very lifelike, especially from a distance. These beings always imagined that the liveship figureheads had body from about midway on the lower torso and up... They feel it odd to have them actually have the entire body, except for the part below the knees...

Hmm... that made 'thul think... how would it be if someone carved a person out of cocoonwood, then got that quickened?

Hello, all! I'm finally de-lurking after lots of time spent here as a "guest". I found RH's books through a Kindle promotion a couple of years ago: they give you the first book in a series for free and hope to hook you in to buy all the rest. Two bleary-eyed weeks later, I finished the FS and TM trilogies, firmly and forever on Team Beloved. I've read all of RH's series, and have re-read the FS and TM series at least three times each (can you say "obsessed"?). I love my Kindle because I have all my favorite passages marked, many with comments like "proof that Fitz and Beloved belong together" and "Argh! What does he see in her?!".

I am an editor in This Universe. I came to fantasy via Tolkein via English Lit, so I get turned off rapidly by leaden, stereotypical characters and ugly prose (sorry, Robert Jordan, I really tried, but couldn't face reading book #5 through infinity of the Wheel of Time--too painful!). I very much like Patrick Rothfuss right now.

I have given up proselytizing about RH books, because once you say "well, it's this alternate medieval universe with some really cool magic...", people tune out.

Thanks, LL! How I envy those who still have TM ahead of them!

Oh thanks Big Grin I'm so tempted to start reading them now, but I said I'd wait til the summer... (We'll see how that goes P)

I know what you mean about people tuning out once you start talking about fantasy books! I admit, I've read some awful fantasy, but also some truly amazing fantasy. But some readers have their minds set against it, and think its all the same.

I will admit to a certain amount of shyness in even bringing up a fantasy book when discussing books with friends. They don't get it and frankly don't want to get it. If someone asks me what I'm reading, if it's fantasy, I just say, "something Tolkienesque". Thankfully I'm reading on the Kindle, so I don't have to shamefully hide a hideous romance-novel-looking cover.Blushing
