Anyway - it perhaps was Feldberg in the Schwarzwald (Blackwood). Nice place for a bit of skeing in winter and backpacking during the rest of the year. (It’s the only Feldberg I know).

@fool-ish: where do you live? Our last couple of summers were not good either. But we had a beautiful autumn last year. We were on holidays in Agypt for 2 weeks in October and being back I really enjoyed the clean, fresh air and the green and lush landscape. What a difference to Agypt.
I live in England. Northern England at that, which is often more grey and damp than the south. Can't remember how autumn was, but summer was extremely wet. We need a bit of sunshine this year so I can chase it around the garden on my sun lounger! P

Not me! I want to visit a couple of places just so that I can say that I've "been there, done that", or to pretend I am more worldy than I actually am, but I am quite happy growing out my grey hairs here Down Under. Smiling

Yes, I've been there, done that, too. Grew up in Paradise, went to Alaska for 30 years, now back in Paradise. Big Grin

I have visited Europe, over the span of several visits, including Moskva, Pushkin, Vilnius, Leningrad, Novgorod, London (thrice), York, Edinburgh, Vienna, Praha, Karlovy Vary, Roma, and Firenze. And all the backsides of neighborhoods along the train tracks between. Wink I've stopped very briefly in København and Stockholm. In North America, I have visited most of the States, and at least the borderlands of most of the provinces of Canada and estados en Mexico.

But I still am happiest back here where I was born, near San Francisco. For me, the grass is definitely greener here. It is interesting for me to listen to my office mates talk over lunch every day, from Pakistan, Switzerland, Sicily, and Mexican, and their frustration with the system here. I also enjoy listening to my imaginary friends, here on this board and others, from all points of the compass. It makes me appreciate more what I have, and do more to work for change where it is needed.

But as for me, my heart is with the Sea, and I will dwell by the grey shores until the last ship sails.

Long time reader, first time poster.

I am an avid reader. I travel an hour to work each day on the train, and an hour home again, so as you can imagine, I read a lot. I easily go through a book every couple of days. So it is a very big statement for me to say that any book set in the Realm of the Elderlings are my favourite books, and that Robin Hobb is the best author of all time.

I, like so many, many others, am in love with the Fool, Lord Golden, Beloved, Amber. IN LOVE. I am in love with a fictional character, and I am oh, so proud of it. I have introduced him/her to my family and friends with pride.

I have reread the original 9 books about 9 times now, and every single time I finish Fool's Fate, I need to google to see what people have said about the series since my last reread, and inevitably, google always points me to this forum. I decided it was time to join!

Have you read the Rain Wild Chronicles yet?

oh, and these beings welcome thee...

when 'thul write in all italics, it is the lord of the three realms within 'thul speaking. A fairly egoistical, but also somewhat simple-minded dragon. Do not take such posts at face value.

Ah, a changing time for you then, Peet75? I love it when that happens! Clapping

Here is as safe a place as any to admit that Big Grin and, yes, I am hereby one of those Fitz-lovers Wub who Valarya speaks of. As Fitz and Beloved 'are one', well, he/she and Nighteyes are included in that love. Joker I'd have to say that Fool would have to be my favourite character of all time...I love a good riddle and our WP sure is that!

My father is seventy-two and a straight-laced country man if ever there was one, and I have got him nearing the end of Tawny Man and sharing in my obsession at last. He was like the final frontier for me...if I can sway him, I can sway the world. MWAHAHAHA! Stirring

Good on you for being unashamed and sharing the love!! Yay

I have this odd little scene jumping into my mind...

Peet75: Mum, Dad, everyone, I'm in love with someone and it's finally time you got to meet them.

Everyone sits expectantly, waiting for the special man/woman to come out from another room...

Peet75: I'd like to introduce you to Fool/Amber/Lord Golden/ Beloved...

Peet75's Family and Friends: Uhhuh Blink

G'day, g'day and great to have you with us, Peet75!! Slurp

It's always good to have the perspective of someone who's had time to read over lots of posts and mull over things (I think I get RotE dumber by the day and knew more about the books 'then' than I do 'now' because now I'm just in a real tangle!), so I'm sure you'll have lots of pearls of wisdom to share!

Whereabouts are you in our world?

My name on this site is londonlassie, I'm a huge Liveships lover, and after months of reading all the Liveships-related topics on the Hobb sites I can find on the internet, I've finally decided to join a few to talk to people as obsessed as I am so I can stop boring my friends with "Hobb this, Hobb that" Yay
