Yea the ending was a lil.. non thrilling. Abrupt.
I'd say it's because she's going to, more or less, continue on the story on, or at least what happened next to the new area thats been discovered in her next book. And she probably didn't think it'd fit with the adventure that was already taking place.
So I guess, don't really think of it as an ending, rather a setting for the next epic adventure
