As for the quote box, you just have to click on the 'Reply' tab (not the 'New Reply' tab) and the former post should come up in your text box.

Correct. Unless you have clicked on the symbol next to it with the green + sign (it changes to – if you do that), that should remove quotes from the reply box. Or if you simply use the "quick reply" box at the bottom of each page, nothing will be quoted either.
