Prologue

Near a village there was an ancient yew tree near a grave where lay buried the princess of a faraway land that died for her country during the Ruthless Wars. Nobody knew that the questing roots were rapidly spreading through the soil feeding off of her decaying flesh. Unfortunately this meant that the tree would soon become a vessel for a great evil.

Chapter 1

During the wars, a young boy with a magical creature known as a bilbenar was roaming the battlefield when quite suddenly the bilbenar went yellow and raised a warbling cry. Flying from its place beside the boy, it went swiftly away from the terrible battlefield because it could see the real steam powered robotic hordes from Hell. Robots are known to be quite impatient with magic, so they had brought with them a tremendous thing: the wizard grinder. This engine of great infernal power could process up to three charges of cold iron per minute, making it extremely dangerous. So magical creatures fled in fear of this instrument of Satan. The boy, burdened with his monumental task, saw his bilbenar circle then plunge downwards towards its refuge: the royal castle. Shrugging, he continued his search among the wrecked machines until he came upon the remains of his favourite commander: Trevesh Zatorr. Horrified, the boy knelt down by the twitching tentacle which poked out of Zatorr's body and gave it an ineffectual tug. What new obscenity would evolve from this unholy mingling?

Meanwhile, the bilbenar was now glowing burnished gold, intent on unearthing the sacred relic of Carlin, a magical horse with a mystical power to instantly melt metal. The hairs of the glowing bilbenar started buzzing as it got closer to the horses' ornate, talismanic gemstone. The facets of the gemstone shone with the bilbenars' blinding golden light.

Suddenly, Zatorr's body gave a spasm and her eyes flew out of the wooden box in which they had cunningly stored her spare organs in preparation for a blasphemous ritual not needed since the occasion when the holy avengers forgot to check whether the kingdom's East was staying where it should. The boy, known for his aptitude for spatial topogromancy, realised immediately what the missing isohyet on his map should have been. The pattern formed was highly curious; it was missing the castle mount. Working quickly, he measured the height of the left hand side of Zatorr's liver, which was proportionate to the mystic number XcKi, the god's secret mathematical constant for hopelessly complicated devotional hymns. However he was unaware of Zatorr's alcohol problem. Schlerosis had deteriorated her liver to about half its former volume which was problematic for the boy's calculations. Realising this, he made the necessary adjustments to his measuring apparatus. The result astonished him: he realized why the battle went so badly wrong. The magic source within the world's isohyetic beams bisected the isohel, greatly upsetting the Earth Dragon's sleep. As this Dragon guarded the gate to the netherworld, it shouldn't be awoken at any cost. Its massive coils plugged the dark tunnel, thus preventing the escape of Hell's diabolical robotic hordes.

The bilbenar arrived, landing atop the conveniently located hill, with the horse

Sorry but I'm a bit stumped here, I think, as I had assumed the horse that was being referred to would be the sacred relic of Carlin (which requires unearthing by the bilbenar etc), and not an actual horse? If not, that's fine...it could even be the boy's horse Smiling !

On another note, though inspired by this thread, our family has started our own three word story that follows the same rules as this one, and is open to contribution from all guests and visitors to our home. It's a lot of fun so THANKS for the idea!

Um... right. Apparently, I have lost track of the story. Feel free to ignore my addition and let something else happen to the horse. Sorry.

Hey Farseer that rocks! Three word stories would be great instead of the 'visitors book' you see in B and B's and other touristy places.

I'm gonna assume the horse talisman came to life due to some activation done by the bilbenar off stage?

Yes, it's heaps of fun, except it has become exceedingly difficult to deter a certain eight-year-old from adding in a talking mouse character that doesn't quite fit P !

EDIT: Hmm...I'm wondering if this should actually read "like a serpent's mane"?
