Having had it in our collection of movies since its release on video, I too know the lyrics off by heart (though only the English ones!).

My husband and I drove all the way into town to see it at the picture theatre with our sons when they were very young, and we still get to watch it on DVD (the VHS tape wore out!) with our daughter or, at least, that's our excuse P ! Such a fantastic musical score and James Earl Jones as the voice for Mufasa never gets old either! It took many viewings before I managed to make it past Mufasa's death without tears...*sniff*

The only thing I DIDN'T like about the movie is that I thought many elements were far too similar to Kimba the White Lion to be mere coincidences (what an outrage I felt it was at the time!). KtWL was a TV show I LOVED when I was a child, and now I relive those happy moments of my childhood by watching old episodes on DVD, again with my daughter Clapping .

I think people are still debating that to this day, lol.

I also agree the similarities are way too uncanny. But I've never seen Kimba, only snippets of it in comparison to Lion King.

Yeah, I remember being a bit disappointed when I first heard the story was heavily borrowed when it had been marketed as Disney's first ~original~ full-length animated film (meaning it wasn't based on an old fairy-tale or book).

My CW listening seems to advance in stages. First it was all about Chloe, then I was fascinated by Hayley and right now Orla Fallon is constantly in my speakers:

Well, you've made me a fan - they are incredible, THANKS Mervi P!

I listened to your links and then also some others for CW that I found for 'Danny Boy' and 'The Moon's A Harsh Mistress' (two of my favourite all-time songs thanks to the likes of Jim Reeves and Glen Campbell!). I see 'Highwayman' is there for CW also...yet another good Jimmy Webb song previously recorded by Glen Campbell before The Highwaymen supergroup made it truly famous (sorry, my 'country' roots are showing Smiling ).

Nice one with "Bohren & Der club of gore - Dolores" too, joost!

Glad to hear you like them too, Farseer! Smiling

I have to say though that I like their "older" stuff better than the most recent recordings. First of all, the lineup has changed quite a bit over the years, and only 3 of the original members are still in. And I just think the team from "A New Journey" was the best. And the shows (if you're watching and not just listening) are getting quite ... overly dramatic? with fireworks and all sorts of other visual distractions, and the dresses just get sillier each year. P

Marillion - The bell in the sea

Not just a beautiful song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLT5eLqAZSo) but also beautiful lyrics.

Marillion - The bell in the sea

I dreamed I rolled on the ocean floor
In the sunken bones of a broken ship
On the shadow line where whispers creep
To the world above from the world beneath
On waves of silver I dreamed of gold
'Till I lost the peace that dreaming gives
I dreamed of the moment of my own death
That no one ever dreams and lives

I dreamed I sailed to the mirrored edge
Of the murky world for an iron bell
That dragged me down to the ocean depths
And rang to mark where my shadow fell

On waves of silver I dreamed of gold
'Till I lost the peace that dreaming gives
I dreamed of the moment of my own death
That no one ever dreams and lives
That no one ever dreams and lives

I dreamed I slept on the ocean bed
In a silent grave of silver sand
And rolled in the sway of an iron bell
I've heard it said when they go to sea
On stormy nights you can hear her moan
She tolls for the mourning of my own death
And echoes here on the village stones

I dreamed of silver I dreamed of gold
'Till I lost the peace that dreaming gives
I dreamed of the moment of my own death
That no one ever dreams and lives
That no one ever dreams and lives

I quite enjoyed that, thanks joost (and the Panic Room stuff also). You are certainly exposing me to music I would otherwise never expose myself to - love it! Dance

Marillion and water, a good combination:

Marillion - Out of this world: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3ftZfB-VNQ (about the Bluebird crash in 1967)
Marillion - Estonia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cpEO0aDxZY (about the sinking of the 'Estonia' ferry in 1994)
Marillion - Ocean cloud: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86Fv8DdbyPY / http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfciXzkprPE (Dedicated to Don Allum, the first man to row across the Atlantic ocean in both directions, due to the length of the song cut in 2 parts)

Rosa crvx - Lvx in tenebris lvcet

Rusa crvx is a French darkwave/neoclassical band which creates its own instruments: a vast installation featuring church bells, a rat-driven hurdygurdy, and the BAM: a literal drum machine, it's live drums where the drum sticks are driven by a machine. Live, they have a lot of special effects too, one of the most spectacular being a large metal cage with someone inside, which is flung against a huge sheet of metal. The 'Danse de la terre' is very impressive to see too, I've had the chance to see this dance from about 1 meter distance. Their music is also elaborately packaged: I have a huge (handmade) wooden box including their CDs, candles, and old manuscripts.
