One of my favorite fantasy authors is Elizabeth A. Lynn. Sadly her Chronicles of Tornor (Watchtower, The Dancers of Arun, The Northern Girl) seem to be out of print. A word of warning, they're definitely not for everyone; she manages to write about a homosexual relationship between brothers who've been raised apart in a way that makes the relationship seem right.

That sounds seriously impressive. I have to admit that the subject of incest intrigues me - I'm not talking about titillation, but the fact that it's a huge taboo nearly everywhere and anytime. Even after other taboos like homosexuality, mixed marriages, etc... have disappeared, almost no one is willing to discuss incest.

Indeed. Even when it comes to homosexual relationships where it logically shouldn't matter, since there's no way it could lead to pregnancy and possibly malformed offspring...

I would like to note that the chances of malformed offspring as a result of incest are actually not as high as most people think. In fact, the custom of whole generations upon generations practicing cousin marriage in certain countries might lead to more trouble in the long run. (This is not to say that I'm against cousin marriage, just that I don't think it should be a tradition for the reason mentioned before.)

I'm about halfway through The Warded Man by Peter V. Brett and I am loving it so far! A great story with some great overall themes of fear and courage. The sequel was just released this month so I'll be quickly picking that one up as well.

Anyone read anything by Trudi Canavan eg The Black Magician Trilogy? Was just checking out Dragon Keeper and Dragon Haven audio books on iTunes and came across some of her stuff...looks interesting?

Hmmm not sure where to post this, but I just found a free book offer - for US residents only!!! (grrr so no use to me)
I have no idea if the book is good - I sort of put it on my to-read list after it sounded interesting in the Suvudu Cage matches....

Here's the link - http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?...Y0FSY3c6MQ

While it wouldn't be for everyone, you may like to try The Otori Series by Australian author, Lian Hearn, for something a little different?

The series (historical fantasy novels) is set in a fictitious world based on feudal Japan. Initially consisting of a trilogy - Across the Nightingale Floor, Grass for His Pillow and Brilliance of the Moon, it was followed by a sequel, The Harsh Cry of the Heron, and lastly by a prequel, Heaven's Net is Wide.

I have never been a fan of Japanese-styled literature but couldn't put these down...literally! If you read them, please let me know what you thought!

Hmmmm this sounds familiar, but I'm not sure if I've read it or just something similar. There's a few fanstasy worlds based quite heavily on feudal Japan aren't there?

I've read The Black Magician trilogy. It's a good fantasy read, often labeled as YA but good for any age. Definitely something you might consider reading if you want another series to share with your kids!
