It's something on her radar but time will tell if all works well for that or not.Oooh, knowing this early enough, I could indeed manage to go to the Netherlands next year. Although I really get mixed feelings thinking of the possibility to meet her. I’m 50 years and some days old and have no experience in being such a great fan to make a trip and see my favorite whatsoever . And making such a trip means quite some effort in time (and cost, but that is acceptable, the Netherlands are not that far) for me, as I’m always short in time (sounds terrible , but I work 5 days a week, and in my leisure time I have to look for house, garden and, most important, the animals.). I wonder, if it’s worth while, just to stand in the row, get my books signed, say „hallo, I’m probably you biggest german fan, I love your books so much, have a good time in Europe, keep on writing so wonderful stories and good bye“. Can you, who certainly have much more experience in visiting such events and meeting Robin, tell me, if it is like this ? Is there a chance to talk to other fans of her or even better, to have a cup of coffee with Robin ? Aaaargh , I really have no idea what to expect from such an event. Please help me !!!!!!!!!!

I don't really like EFF (nitpick mode: Last F is for Fair, not Festival), there's too much cosplaying for my taste, and the music isn't my thing either. But there's usually a big market selling fantasy stuff (clothing, books, paraphernalia (a.k.a. junk )), which may be interesting. For information: http://www.elffantasyfair.com/ (currently gives info on the Arcen EFF which took place last weekend). Presale for Haarzuilens already started: http://arcen.elffantasyfair.com/index.php/en/tickets You know nothing, Jon Snow

What means "cosplaying" ?

Quote:What means "cosplaying" ? Cosplay is the term used when people dress up in costume as their favourite characters - I've gone to Harry Potter releases dressed as a Gryffindor before, for example. Some of the costumes can be pretty haphazard and thrown together, and others can be incredibly detailed, with weeks of work put into them.

Thanks, Apricots, for this info. I couldn't find the word in my online-dictionnary. Perhaps "cos" is the short form of "costume"? Hm, I'm afraid, I'm a little bit too old for that sort of stuff. But watching cosplaying, can be great fun, I imagine. Many people with so much fantasy !

Oh it's great! I don't have the patience to sew costumes myself, but I have a couple of friends who do and the effort is so worth it. I also remember seeing a picture that Robin promoted on her newsfeed of a Jamaillian dress somebody had made? I'll try and find the link.

I don't have the patience and the ability to sew. I know which dress you mean. I also saw it. It's on her side, isn't it ?! Wasn't it supposed to be Malta's dress ?. Yes, it was amazing.

Robin named it 'Festival' but it was only a passing comment, so I fear that nothing may come of it and everyone will get their hopes up for naught...thanks to me (who should possibly have waited before sharing such tidings)! Still, if she's aware/thinking of it, at least we may hear yay or nay over the next few months, giving those of you who are interested time to plan. I'm thinking I'd better complete my report from SupaNova, so that I can share my experience! (Sep-21-2011, 08:24 AM (UTC))joost Wrote: For information: http://arcen.elffantasyfair.com/. Tickets are already on sale: http://arcen.elffantasyfair.com/index.php/en/tickets Nice one, joost! If anyone hears of any news on Robin's possible attendance at EFF, please let us know (and hopefully it will be in the affirmative so I don't feel bad for possibly jumping the gun!). @ finella: finella, I have only twice stood in line to meet an author. The first was Australian children's author, Mem Fox, who conducted a brilliant presentation for teachers/educators and reading of her latest (at the time) book prior to her book signing session. My daughter was about seven at the time so a member of Mem's writing target audience. The other author was, of course, Robin Hobb aka our Tangle Leader...and the first time I had ever done such a thing for myself in the capacity of "fan". Many of my friends couldn't believe what I was going to undertake, especially in that I was wanting to meet an author who writes fantasy! As for what I experienced there, you've given me incentive to complete my SupaNova report so I will share it with you all soon when it's done. Nothing like a little more suspense! @ Apricots: I remember seeing a photo that Robin posted of herself with a lady from SupaNova dressed Cinderella-like . I also saw a link regarding a lady who created a dress *Liveship Traders spoiler* It was gorgeous!
